Maini Sorri - Hold MeMaini’s new catchy dance single Hold Me will be released on May 7th.  A must see Hold Me music video will be promoted to MTV and all over the USA by Trilogy Music Group in Hollywood.

The music video was directed by the video director W.A. Henderson from Los Angeles. W.A Henderson sent a message to Maini on Christmas Eve 2012 and told her that he would like to shoot  music videos for her.

The beautiful Hold Me music video that you can watch time after time stars beautiful Mali Monae and Michael Martinez from Los Angeles, USA.

See Maini – Hold Me – Official video here

Label is Reya music, Sweden.

Maini has, as always, written the music, while the lyrics are by Gary Cornman from the USA and the remix is by Carsten Lehmann from Germany.

Before Christmas there was the final of the Global Voice Singing Competition in live broadcast. In the final there were 5 artists. They came from USA, Australia, Germany, Finland and Sweden. All participants had co-worked during the Autumn with their mentor to produce the best possible contibrution to the final.

During the show all 5 contributions were aired. The international jury consisting of Ivy Temple, Dennis Somers from England and Nessa Glen from USA commented each song and asked the artists some questions.

Maini Sorri’s contribution to the final was a new original song Moira. Maini has written the music and the lyrics are written by Gary Cornman. The remix is by Mainis mentor in the contest, Jörgen Hansson from Sweden, the award winner and a talented multi instrumentalist.

The comments that Maini got from the jury were  “very good“, “very pretty” och a “nice voice“.

At the end of the show the jury’s votes were counted and the winner was announced. The winner was Johanna Herranen from Finland with her contribution The Circle of the Old.

Maini got a shared second place in the contest.

The Global Voice writes on their website:

“Many thanks to the five vocalists and to the mentors, Kelly Sapergia, Steve Matzura, Jorgen Hansson and Chrissie Cochrane for providing entries of such a high standard for the competition”.

“Maini Sorri has to be Sweden’s best kept secret as far as British audiences are concerned. The woman from Uppsala’s profile is really only known to the minority dedicated lovers of Scandinavian music in the U.K. and that is a shame as her album Someday: Volume Two is a sweet, intelligent and enjoyable piece of work.

Ms. Sorri’s vocals glide through the songs with a sense of finely tuned beauty and whilst it is difficult enough to change the written lyrics of one language to another, to change a style could be deemed as an even harder challenge but Maini Sorri provides a great awareness in her voice of what can grab the listener carefully by the hand and touch their heart with finely tuned sentiment.

Like the current fascination for Scandinavian Noir which has crossed from one side of the North Sea to the other with an almost pulsating appreciation, Maini has tapped into a vibe with her songs of innocence and a devastating anguish with Only A Memory, the delightful Oh Echo, the wonderful child-like despair of I Shouldn’t Have Trusted You and the exquisite Lahden Yksin (A Finnish version of the song I Am Leaving) which also gets a superb airing on the album.

The album certainly deserves attention and so does Maini Sorri, it certainly cannot be easy for any singer or band from that part of the world as they constantly have the image of Sweden’s most famous musical export constantly bandied around them. The world has moved on since the heady days of Abba-mania but in some ways the music of that nation never seems to get a look in without someone always asking if they will be as successful.

No matter what Ms. Sorri does next, this album will be a crowning glory of Scandinavian music”.

Tracks: All good.”

Melodifestivalen Final GenrepI have just seen the first of the Swedish national selections, Melodifestivalen, of Eurovision song contest 2010. I am really suprised. There were not one female composer, not one single female lyricist. Many of the songs were very like each other, many of them had phrases that I have heard before in other songs.  Where are catchy and interesting refrains and great verses? I am glad there was one talented songwriter that sang his own song,  Salem Al Fakir.

I wrote last year that many composers whose songs are picked for the contest, take the easy way out writing very simple refrains, with much repeating. The main question is anyway, how is the jury that is picking these songs? Thousends of song writers send their songs. I know many talented song writers that are never allowed to compete, their songs are never picked.  I know publishers that have stopped sending in songs because they are never picked. Year after year mostly the same composers’ songs are picked, no wonder that many of them sound like each other.

These national selections are very popular and sees by millions of people. I really long for a year when we will hear the best songs that people have sent to the contest, no matter who the song writers are, instead of songs that are written by famous song writers, well known by the jury.

Next year I would like to hear only songs by new song writers that have not been competing before. To the jury: Take your time and listen to all songs that are sent to you! That is your job!
