Melodifestivalen bildThere has been two Swedish national selections of Eurovision Song Contest so far. About 86 % of the songwriters are men. It means that Sweden is not as equal as people think when it comes to music.

Some of the songs that have been picked up for the selections are written by the same men year after year. Every song that a songwriter gets into the contest generates a lot of money. Why is it so important that mostly men earn that money? There are lots of talented female songwriters in Sweden. What I hope for next year’s selections is that we get a female Eurovision Song Contest General who’s goal is to pick up songs of great female songwriters to the selections.

I have a quite good song memory. It is sad that many phrases in some songs are heard before. It happens when the same persons write songs to the contest year after year.

Artists vary but the sex of the songwriters don’t. It is very peculiar that the lack of female songwriters is not more noticed by media and listeners. Everyone is so used to it, after years and years with the same male Eurovision Song Contest General in Sweden.

Most of the contestants are also men, although there are lots of great female artists and bands in Sweden. In the second national  selection tonight 80 % of the artists were men!

Before Christmas there was the final of the Global Voice Singing Competition in live broadcast. In the final there were 5 artists. They came from USA, Australia, Germany, Finland and Sweden. All participants had co-worked during the Autumn with their mentor to produce the best possible contibrution to the final.

During the show all 5 contributions were aired. The international jury consisting of Ivy Temple, Dennis Somers from England and Nessa Glen from USA commented each song and asked the artists some questions.

Maini Sorri’s contribution to the final was a new original song Moira. Maini has written the music and the lyrics are written by Gary Cornman. The remix is by Mainis mentor in the contest, Jörgen Hansson from Sweden, the award winner and a talented multi instrumentalist.

The comments that Maini got from the jury were  “very good“, “very pretty” och a “nice voice“.

At the end of the show the jury’s votes were counted and the winner was announced. The winner was Johanna Herranen from Finland with her contribution The Circle of the Old.

Maini - Let Me Do Your Time cdcoverI was chosen as the Arzuk Artist of the week by Arzuk Productions, California, in April 2011. The featured song was my techno track Let Me Do Your Time. You can see the video on CNN

You can see Let Me Do Your Time video on Youtube here

Here you can read the great review of Let Me Do Your Time by Gonzalo Arzamendi, the CEO of Arzuk Productions.

“This is a well composed melody with a great dance beat, clear and well tune vocals with great harmonies, excellent base. This song poses a strong structure with a well defined line, excellent rhythm easy to follow, a real and excited experience for the listener. Let Me Do Your time grabs you attention from the beginning to the end with the well performed mix, this is a song in my opinion that you must to add to your collection”.

I send many thanks to Gonzalo Arzamendi for a great review and for giving both me and my band Sorriso this great opportunity!

In July it was Season finale of Arzuk Artist Contest. We were 10 bands from USA, Canada, Japan and only 2 bands from Europe. These 2 European bands were my Italian/Swedish band Sorriso with Special Friend and I as a solo artist with Let Me Do Your Time.

It became a very exciting and tie contest. Fans could vote for their favourite artist by phone, poll and email once a day during one week. It was a very tie contest till the end.

Sorriso Special Friend ArtworkI became number 2 with Let Me Do Your Time only 48 votes after number 1! Sorriso became #3 with Special Friend.

I want to thank once again all my fans for voting!  Big thanks to Gonzalo Arzamendi for giving me and my band this opportunity and for all great support! Big thanks also to our promoter Jason Boner from Liverpool that did a great job gathering votes!
